Saga Furs and Chinese luxury brand WOO join forces to find young talented designers

In January 2019 Saga Furs, Chinese luxury scarf brand WOO and BIFTPARK-HN had a project together. The project lasted for six days and its participants were design students who had received Saga Furs techniques training in BIFTPARK-HN in 2018 and already had a solid understanding of Saga Furs’ raw materials and techniques. The aim of this design project was to create new ideas of fur trimming in scarf and shawl for WOO and encourage young talents to see the great potential of fur in fashion.

On the first day, Ms. Zhao Lei, the design manager of WOO, gave a detailed introduction to WOO’s brand history and most famous products, in addition to the design assignment for the students. Students were supposed to use WOO’s cashmere scarves as the base for the project and fur as the trimming material. The target was to create something new and innovative using fur that meets WOO’s brand identity.

On January 14, after five days of research, conception, design and producing, the students were ready to present their final works to the judges. The jury consisted of representatives from WOO, Saga Furs and BIFTPARK-HN: Zhao Lei, Woo Design Manager, Samantha Vesala, Business Director, Asia at Saga Furs, Thea Larsen, Head of Product Development and Master Furrier at Saga Furs’ Design Centre, and Ma Qian, Lecturer of BIFTPARK-HN.

After the final decision was made, Vesala announced that Miss Gao Shengfang and Miss Huang Qiongrou were winners of the project and will receive a week long study trip to Saga Furs Design Centre. “Saga Furs is very excited to work alongside with WOO and BIFT. Collectively these three parties will be bringing together the most talented young designers for future,” mentions Samantha Vesala.
