FENDI and Saga Furs in support of young talents for the magic of fur

Aiming at inspiring design students with the magic of fur as well as conveying the traditional fur skill and craft to the next generation, FENDI and Saga Furs have developed a unique internship experience for young talents to showcase their flair of creativity in fur design.

Two leading design schools, London College of Fashion (LCF) in London and Accademia Costume & Moda (ACM) in Rome, were chosen as the hosts for this exclusive program that awarded the winner a place in the much sought after FENDI internship program.

Earlier this year eight MA design students from both schools visited Saga Furs Design Centre for an intensive one-week seminar to learn the practical skills working with fur. “FENDI is synonym of luxury, unique craftsmanship, daring creativity and quality so this was superb opportunity for Saga Furs to work with this long-time partner of ours. To combine this with inspiring future young minds in fur design in the heart and soul of our company, the design centre, was just magic in the making”, said Charlie Ross, Head of International Marketing and Sustainability of Saga Furs.

Each design student, in order to qualify as a finalist, has to demonstrate a fur collection in sketches and design ideas. The judges selected two finalists based on creative design and technique application and the selected piece from the collection is made by both Saga Furs and FENDI workshops. On June 30, FENDI chose Emel Bakici, MA student in Fashion Design Technology Womenswear of LCF, as the winner of the contest. The vote was based on the high level of research of fur, techniques, colour and combination with a specific style.

The support of young talents is crucial for us as well as the preservation and transmission of savoir-faire from one generations to another. We are excited to see innovative fur creations from the design students and look forward to having the winner at our atelier,” states Pietro Beccari, Chairman and CEO of FENDI.
