The long-standing collaboration between Madrid’s ISEM Fashion Business School and Saga Furs continues to strengthen the connection between academia and the international fur industry. During the June 2026 auction, a group of seven ISEM students and two faculty members visited Saga Furs to gain first-hand insight into the business, exchange ideas and explore the future opportunities for fur.
The students Ana Sofía Aguayo, Marie Augu, Chiara Dall’Ongaro, Elena Del Prado, María Martín Ramos, Silvia Sandoval and Adriana Torres delivered an inspiring presentation to the audience gathered at the Saga Furs Creative Hub. Drawing on their diverse professional backgrounds in marketing, fashion buying, sustainability and design, the students challenged conventional thinking and encouraged the audience to look beyond traditional markets.

A vision for the future of natural fur
One of the key ideas presented was the opportunity to expand the use of fur into new industries alongside fashion. The students identified several promising opportunities, particularly in hospitality, hotel interiors, furniture, and premium textiles where natural fur could offer unique value. Their message was clear: broadening the application of fur could open entirely new business opportunities and new audiences.
The students concluded that transparency and traceability will play a crucial role in shaping the future perception of fur. Building on these observations, the group proposed three strategic communication themes that could further strengthen the industry’s positioning.
Natural versus plastic: highlighting the environmental advantages of natural fur and encouraging discussion about the hidden environmental costs of synthetic alternatives.
Luxury, longevity and craftsmanship: presenting fur as a timeless, durable material that embodies exceptional craftsmanship and lasting value.
Traceability and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) data as competitive advantages: demonstrating how transparent production data and compliance can build trust, meet regulatory expectations and create added value for customers.
It was inspiring to notice that these themes closely align with the values and priorities that Saga Furs has been advancing across its business and communications and importantly, is already living by them in practice.
Discovering fur for the first time
The visit gave the students their first opportunity to explore and work with natural fur. During a workshop at the Saga Furs Creative Hub, they became acquainted with the material under the guidance of Saga Furs’ skilled furriers Vittoria Tosatto and Sofia Dimitriadis as well as Business Developer Carlota Garcia Rama.
The students noted that many fashion students are increasingly interested in working with authentic, sustainable natural materials instead of plastic-based alternatives. Experiencing fur firsthand allowed them to better understand its craftsmanship, versatility and design potential.

Saga Furs values its ongoing collaboration with ISEM Fashion Business School, which continues to bring together education, creativity and industry expertise. By encouraging dialogue between future professionals and industry experts, the partnership helps generate fresh ideas that support innovation and contribute to the long-term development of the international fur industry.
