Young designer Trev Yung explores sustainable fur innovation

An international group of creatives from Spain, Greece, and Hong Kong visited the Saga Furs Creative Hub in June. Among the participants was Trev Yung from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Trev was the winner of the Sustainable Fur Design Competition, held during the Hong Kong International Fur Fashion Fair last year. The competition is supported by Saga Furs, and as part of his prize, Trev was awarded a one-week trip to Finland, including a hands-on workshop at the Saga Furs Creative Hub.

Designing with Purpose

Trev’s redesign concept, titled “Nothing Lasts Forever,” plays with the striking contrast between heavy and light textures. It combines Cross mink with delicate lace and embroidery to create a truly unique piece.

– The trip to Finland was a meaningful and memorable opportunity to engage with other young designers. It is important to explore different working mediums to truly understand myself, as I believe that one’s characteristics and personality will genuinely be reflected in one’s work, says Trev.

During his time at the Saga Furs Creative Hub, Trev gained invaluable insights into various types of pelts, fur techniques, and sustainable development practices throughout the supply chain. He created a plush tomato as a gift for the other participants, subtly conveying the idea of sharing gentleness and warmth through his design.
